In The Space of Light, a space of light is created. Making the light visible, the hidden light within a kind of infinity. Creating an illusion with light in an immeasurable space, a space where scale no longer matters.
The work relates to the story The Aleph by Jorge Luis Borges, in which the mysterious Aleph is described as a point in space that contains all points. A place where all places on Earth are present, unmixed, seen from every possible angle. If all places on Earth are contained within the Aleph, then it must also contain all the stars, all the lamps, all sources of light, but also everything we know and everything we do not know, everything we possess and everything we will never be able to possess. In Borges’s story, the Aleph takes the form of a shimmering sphere that glows somewhere in a corner of a basement.
In The Space of Light, this sphere remains invisible; the mystery is not revealed. Instead, traces can be seen, glowing along the edges of the infinite space.
Vedute was founded in 1991 with the purpose to build up a collection of 3D manuscripts: a library of three-dimensional objects, each in a closed box measuring 44 x 32 x 7 cm, as visualized thoughts that make the concept of space accessible and tangible.
